The Somerset County Educational Services Commission (SCESC) is a public educational agency, established under New Jersey Statute Title 18A, that serves as the catalyst for cooperative education, administration, and financing. The State of New Jersey mandates that school districts provide instruction and educational supports to all students regardless of their level of need.
Since 1978, the SCESC continues to provide shared educational programs and services to Somerset and neighboring county school districts who are unable to provide the necessary academic programming and/or services for a student. SCESC consistently grows and adapts its programs and services to meet the ever changing needs of school districts and their students.
The SCESC offers the following:
· Transportation Services
Services include: bus rentals, driver abstracts, driver evaluations, safety meetings, trainings/certifications, and planning, bidding, and coordination of student transportation
· Career Center, Grades 6‑12+
Special education programs include: Combined Building Trades, Cosmetology, Automotive Technology, Supermarket Careers, Culinary Arts, Life Skills, and Structured Learning Experience.
· Pathways Academy, Ages 18-21
Special education program for eligible students, operates on a 210 day school year, includes career development, life skills, instruction, and transitional supports.
· New Dawn Academy, Grades 6-12
Therapeutic alternative education program includes wraparound mental health and psychiatric services provided by Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care.
· Special Education Programs, Grades K-12+
IEP required speech and language (up to twice a week) and occupational therapy (up to one 60 minute session per week) services are included.
· Alternative Education Programs, Grades 6-12
· Interim Placement Programs
· Alternative to Suspension Programs
· Extended School Year Program (current students)
· High School Credit Recovery Summer Program (open to public)
· Nonpublic/Public Services
Services: CST evaluations and home instruction for public schools and nonpublic school services including Chapter 192/193, Nursing, Technology, Textbooks, Security Aid, and home instruction, as available.
